An Ode to Woven Fields II
We are pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by acclaimed Canadian Colour Field painter William Perehudoff, bringing together works spanning more than three decades of his prolific career.
Spanning three decades, this show traces Perehudoff’s career through its humble beginnings in Saskatoon in the early 1970s, to his international success of the 80s and 90s.
This “retrospective” begins with paintings from as early as 1972, a period when Perehudoff’s career was gaining momentum and his work was receiving increasing recognition beyond Canada, the exhibition follows the evolution of his practice through the 1980s, including his celebrated gel medium paintings, and into the 1990s and 2000s, when he increasingly explored crisp forms and vibrant colour variations of his hard-edge paintings. Together, these works offer a look at the development of one of Canada’s important Colour Field painters across an accomplished period of artistic production.
Come explore the exhibition from October 3rd - November 21st, 2026 to experience the vibrant and exciting work of one of Canada’s most beloved Colour Field painters from the modern era.

“Perehudoff’s story is the anomaly of the farmer-painter who, except for a period of formal training during the late 1940’s and regular travel abroad, never left Saskatchewan and yet came to enjoy international recognition and success, with dealers and shows in New York and London. Woven into that is the identification of his work with Emma Lake and its incorporation into Greenberg’s prairie story.”
Abstract Painting in Canada by Roald Nasgaard, 2008
“Perehudoff’s relationship to the Canadian Prairies remained central to his artistic identity throughout his career … “It is impossible to resist making some sort of equation, however tenuous, between the clear light, the flat terrain, and the expansive spaces of Saskatchewan and the radiant colour, frontality, and openness of Perehudoff’s mature abstractions.”
“Perehudoff has said he prefers paintings ‘with a kind of pulse,’ by which he meant an active interplay among the elements of the picture. He provokes this pulse by variations of colour and intensity, as well as by subtle shifts away from horizontality or verticality, within his compositions, in order to create delicate, enlivening imbalances …Perehudoff’s story is his enduring relationship to place – more precisely, to a distinctive landscape with a very particular character.”
